One pack that particularly caught my eye was this box of Ryvita Beetroot crackers which appear to be one of the newest arrivals to the Rivita brand. A quick calorie check revealed that one cracker has 25 calories.
Ryvita Beetroot crackers are made with beetroot and pieces of quinoa. They’re suitable for vegetarians and are low in saturated fat. Each box contains four individually wrapped packs of 6 crackers, making 24 crackers per box.
Although they contain a vegetable, they certainly won’t be providing one of the recommended '5 a day'. The beetroot however, does give the crackers a vibrant pinkish hue, and after taste testing them by eating a few dry, I could definitely detect the beetroot which gives them a slightly sweet flavour.
These are a really nice cracker that go well topped with a bit of cream cheese and tomato. My husband eats them with cheese and pickle and thinks they’re nice, although he admits he can’t really taste the beetroot once covered with pickle!
There is a tiny 2% quinoa flour in there as well which contributes a small amount of extra protein.
You can find Ryvita Beetroot crackers in larger supermarkets.
Look out for my Rivita range post coming soon.
