Little Jude’s Milk Lollies Review

Little Judes Just ice cream lolliesIf you like Mini Milk ice lollies, you might be interested in a new ice lolly from the makers of Jude’s ice cream.

Like Mini Milks, Little Jude’s are available in 3 flavours: shocolate, strawberry and vanilla. They have no refined sugar and typically have 30% less sugar than similar ice lollies. And a big plus – each lolly has only 30 or 31 calories!

Jude’s Ice Cream makers are another brand who have recently developed a lower calorie ice cream range. These are often sweetened with stevia instead of lots of added sugar which helps reduce the calorie content.

I’ve often thought Mini Milk ice lollies by Walls were a reasonable low calorie ice lolly snack because they’re only 31 or 32 calories each – just like the Little Jude’s.

However, looking at the ingredients list, Little Jude’s is a whole lot shorter without the added glucose syrup and fructose syrup and sugar which are found in Mini Milks. In my view, this gives Little Jude’s a health advantage.

When it comes to taste, we all agreed they are a little bland, but they are lovely and creamy and can be eaten at any time without worrying about putting on weight.

They are small and consist of only around 5-6 bites but this is because they’re targeted at children. Apart from the chocolate, the strawberry and vanilla are flavoured with ‘natural flavouring’, but we have no idea what this is.

They are fortified with Vitamin D3 most likely sourced from animals which means they aren’t suitable for vegans but they are suitable for vegetarians.

Price wise, Little Jude’s cost £3.00 for a box of 8 x 35ml lollies (currently on offer at £2.20 at Ocado). Mini Milks are cheaper at £2.20 for a box of 12 so you have to decide how important the ingredients are when making your choice. Price or ingredients?

Available at Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado at the time of writing.

10% of profits go to charity supporting children and young people.
