Dairy Free Biomel Probiotic Drinks review

Biomel almond milk drink dairy freeI’ve written about the health benefits of kefir in previous posts, but what about if you’re vegan or dairy free? Kefir contains a fantastic source of healthy bacterial cultures, but of course, it’s made from milk so not suitable for those with a dairy allergy, or who are vegan.

Fortunately there are dairy free culture drinks with all the benefits of dairy kefir. One of these is produced by the company Biomel. They have a range of probiotic drinks made from coconut milk, and more recently almond milk.

They’re available in 510ml bottles and little ‘shot’ bottles, 125ml, with an average of just 50 calories per bottle.

I love kefir and drink some every day. It’s such a great source of probiotics, tastes delicious and is so versatile. But I like to mix it up a bit with dairy free probiotics and these Biomel drinks are so tasty.

They contain billions of live active cultures, as well as vitamins B6, D and calcium which helps support the immunity and digestive health.

Here’s what they say:

The UK’s leading dairy-free probiotic!
Biomel is the most delicious way to promote gut health.
Each serving of Biomel contains billions of live active cultures, Vitamin B6, D and Calcium, proven to support the normal function of the digestive and immune systems.

Our cultures are 10 times stronger than yoghurt and kefir cultures and have been designed to thrive where others cannot. Our cultures remain dormant through transit to your gut, where they become active, quickly multiply and out-compete the bad bacteria. This helps the good bacteria in your gut thrive!'

Biomel is 100% plant-based, made from natural ingredients, free from gluten, soy, GM, dairy and lactose. Our Natural is also free from added sugar.

Enjoy Biomel daily, as part of a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet. Natural Biomel is perfect for topping granola and cereals in the morning, or as a guilt-free afternoon snack.’

Varieties are:

  • Natural coconut (33 calories)
  • Dark chocolate (56 calories)
  • Pure vanilla (46 calories),
  • Natural almond (35 calories)
  • Almond salted caramel (52 calories).

I’ve bought all of these flavours and my favourites are the pure vanilla and the almond salted caramel but the chocolate is a close runner up.

They’re a thinner consistency than dairy kefir, more like regular coconut milk but they are all so tasty. It’s an added bonus they have all the health benefits of healthy bacteria AND they’re low in calories. They’re really easy to drink and everyone in my family loves these.

They’re not exactly cheap to buy though, with the small 125ml pots costing around £1.49 but they are occasionally on offer.

Made in the UK and are dairy free, gluten free, soy free, lactose free, vegan, GMO free.
The bottles are 100% recyclable and are BPA free.

They are available in Waitrose and Ocado online as well as selected health food stores.

  1. I had an unsweetened almond when they* were on offer a while ago from Sainsbury's - utter rip off.

But then again, any probiotic benefit was probably incinerated on contact with the River Styx I have for a gastrointestinal tract.

    1. Yes the price isn't great for the amount you get. Sounds like you need to see a nutritionist!
