Nush Almond Milk Strawberry Yogurt Tubes Review

Nush Almond Milk strawberry yogurtIf you haven’t heard of Nush before, I’m sure you’ll be seeing their name around the supermarkets quite soon. Nush make a range of dairy free products, which is no doubt growing fast due to the increasing popularity of plant based eating and going dairy free.

One of the latest offerings spotted in the yogurt section of the supermarket were these individual Nush tubes, in Strawberry (34 calories) or Blueberry (42 calories). Each box contains 5 x 40g tubes and they're aimed at the kids market.

As a big yogurt eater I’m always on the lookout for new varieties in the stores. I tend to stay away from the coconut yogurts because, although delicious, they’re quite calorific. Nush make their yogurts with almond milk and cashew milk which and aren’t quite so high in calories.

I decided to purchase a box of Strawberry tubes made with almond milk, both for myself to review and for my daughter who refuses to eat dairy yogurt. I hoped she’d like these.

Each Strawberry tube has only 34 calories and less than a quarter of a teaspoon of sugar.

They need to be torn open at the top and this can be a little tricky but as long as you have dry hands I could open them easily.

To get at the yogurt, just squeeze the tube. It’s quite creamy and pale looking and smooth with no bits. To my taste buds I could clearly taste the almond flavour more than anything else. It’s a bit like marzipan which I wasn’t too keen on. I tried closing my eyes to figure out whether I would know if it was strawberry or not, and I’m not too sure!

Alpro Plain with Oats Yogurt Review

Alpro Soya yogurt with oatsAlpro have yet another new addition to their range of soya yogurts. This one is their plain yogurt with added oats. As my favourite Onken yogurt is no longer being sold, I’ve been trying various different brands of non-dairy yogurt.

Alpro Plain with Oats is low in sugar, low fat, low saturated fat and low salt and has just 55 calories per 100g.

What the label says:
Discover the goodness of soya and oats, Alpro Plain with Oats. Enjoy this plant-based alternative to yogurt packed it fibre, perfect for breakfast.
The oaty texture and fine oatflakes give you a unique mild oat taste experience. Delicious with fruits or simply plain. SO many ways to enjoy every day.
  • Rich in fibre
  • Rick in plant protein
  • Naturally low in fat and low in sugars.

The taste of soy yogurt is quite different to dairy yogurt, and it’s taken me a while to get used to the taste. However, I quite like it now, especially as Alpro has quite a mild taste. I purchased this version with added oats because the sugars and calories are still low and I love oats.

Peeling back the lid it’s clear to see lots of oaty bits mixed in the with yogurt. It smells just like the regular plain version and tastes the same. The difference obviously is this one has oaty bits. Considering that oats account for just 2.9% of the contents, I found that there were actually a lot of oats, and it was impossible to get a spoon without any oats.

The texture of the yogurt is slightly chewy so it feels a bit more satisfying. I enjoyed eating it on its own without adding to anything.

The label suggests it’s ‘rich in fibre’ but I wouldn’t go that far. There’s 2.3g of fibre per 100g which isn’t a lot, but is just over twice the amount of fibre in the plain Alpro soya yogurt.

This is definitely a soya yogurt I’ll be purchasing again.
