INVO Blushing Pink Coconut Water Review

Stocking up on a few supplies in Holland and Barratt recently, I noticed a new brand of coconut water in the fridge section. Great, I thought, here's another one to add to my coconut water post. But on noticing the price (£2.69 for a 300ml bottle) I nearly didn’t bother.

What intrigued me about this INVO coconut water was its colour. Although it contained pure coconut water, it was coloured pink!

After a brief chat with the assistant, she assured me the pinkness was a natural phenomenon and that it was quite normal. So I purchased a bottle and took it home.


Apparently not every bottle of INVO’s coconut water turns pink. On the side of the bottle there is the question “Am I Blushing”?

Here’s what else it says:

'Over time, some coconut water may take on a pleasant pink hue. This is natural and nothing to be alarmed about. The pinkness is simply enzymes working to change the colour of some of the beneficial polyphenolics found naturally in coconut water. Pasteurising with heat destroys enzymes and stops this natural phenomenon. We are different … Enjoy!!'

According to the information found at their website, INVO coconut water is processed using high pressure processing rather than pasteurisation. This essentially kills off bad bacteria while leaving the beneficial enzymes intact. Pasteurising uses high heat which generally kills off the enzymes.

Not feeling quite so worried, I opened it up.

It smells like regular coconut water and has quite a sweet taste and thankfully there is no sugar added. It's thirst quenching and, like most coconut water, tastes best when it’s straight out of the fridge, icy cold. It's even nicer when you're really thirsty. With the boiling temperatures we've been experiencing in London, I’ve been thirsty a lot! This definitely hits the spot.

Is it any different to other coconut water drinks? To be honest, it doesn't stand out in any way apart from its colour. I would like to think I'm gaining some benefits from those live enzymes in there, but who knows! It is expensive but so too are many of the better quality coconut drinks available.

Although it's not certified organic, INVO uses coconuts that are sustainably farmed. It’s bottled at source in Thailand with minutes of cracking into the coconut.

Besides the plain variety, in the UK INVO also sell Coconut Water with Pineapple and Coconut Water with Thai Lime. All are made the same way and have nothing added.
