Nairns Oat Cracker Thins Review

Nairn's Oat Cracker Thins packetI’m a big fan of Nairn’s and have tried many of their oat snacks. This includes their tasty sweet oat biscuits which are all under 45 calories and Oaty Bakes – individual oat snacks, plus of course, their range of oat cakes. But last week I spotted a product by Nairn’s which I hadn’t seen before.

Nairn’s Oat Cracker Thins are the first oat-based savoury snack I’ve seen in cracker form. I don’t know if they’re new or not, but they sounded nice, and with 32 calories each, I had to buy a box.

Nairn’s Oat Cracker Thins are wheat free and contain: wholegrain oats, no GM ingredients, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, no hydrogenated fat and are high fibre. They’re also suitable for vegetarians.

The description on the box is ‘light and crispy, baked with sunflower seeds’. Boxes contain four sealed packs of six crackers.

The crackers are baked to a lovely crisp, snappy texture which is quite different to regular oat cakes. Sunflower seeds are liberally scattered throughout the crackers, adding a slight nutty flavour. They are absolutely delicious and I can happily eat these dry.

Probably the reason they are so easy to eat on their own is because of the fat content. While the calories per cracker is very good, just 32, they are high in saturated fat with a medium fat content. Sugar is low and salt is medium.

I will definitely keep buying these as they make a tasty alternative to wheat crackers. My whole family also liked them which is great as I’m trying to get them to cut down on bread and eat more oat products. The benefits of eating oats include the fact that they’re a slow releasing carbohydrate, so should help with keeping us fuller longer.

Available in health food shops and major supermarkets.
