Crème fraiche is often used as a healthier, lower calorie alternative to fresh cream. But, although creme fraiche does have less fat than cream, it's not always an ideal swap for dieters as it's usually still high in calories.
For example, 100g of Tesco’s double cream has 467 calories and 50.5g of fat, while their Crème Fraiche has 305 calories and 31.1g of fat.

Or if you’re looking for lower fat alternatives, Tesco’s Healthy Living Crème Fraiche has 170 calories and 15g of fat per 100g and Sainsbury’s 50% less fat crème fraiche has 169 calories and 15g of fat.
So Weight Watchers low fat creme fraiche is a fantastic option for slimmers and anyone trying to cut down on their fat and calorie intake.
With a texture similar to Greek yogurt and a slightly tangy flavour, its versatility makes it suitable for hot, cold, sweet or savoury dishes.

Congratulations on this find - it is very low in fat. Does it have the same texture & taste as a 'reduced fat' creme fraiche option with a higher fat content of around 15%?
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to say. When I've bought the higher fat varieties, it's usually been to add to some recipe i.e. curry. But I've been happy enough to eat this Weight Watchers creme fraiche as a topping for strawberries because it's not much higher in calories than natural yogurt. But the texture is really thick so is a good alternative for double cream.
