Although the majority of fresh fruit is very low in calories, not all are. For example, a banana has around twice as many calories as an apple. If you're trying to lose weight, you might find that choosing more of the lower calorie fruits instead of the higher calorie fruits, could help you save hundreds of calories throughout the week.
Fruits which have significantly more calories than others are usually those which are sweetest. The reason fruit is so sweet, as opposed to vegetables, is because of the amount of natural sugars they contain. And the sweeter the fruit, the more sugar it has. This of course, means more calories.
To help you choose which fruits have the lowest calories, I've compiled a chart showing popular fruits which are commonly eaten as snacks or added to recipes. You can see the calorie amount per average fruit or serving and per 100g so you can make a fair comparison weight for weight.
Top 20 Lowest Calorie Fruit Chart
Note: 100g = 3.5 ounces
Of course, snacking on any fruit is preferable to the majority of processed snacks. But when every calorie counts, you may find that increasing the amount of low calorie fruits in your diet helps with your weight loss.
