REAL D'Lites Cassava Snacks

I’ve taken quite a liking to cassava snacks, so I was pleased to spot this brand in a branch of Boots recently. REAL D’lites are available in
two flavours: Vine Ripened Tomato and Herb Bites and Cheddar Cheese & Red Onion Bites. Each 20g pack contains 84 calories and 83 calories respectively.

These alternatives to crisps are made from the cassava plant rather than potatoes. The resulting snack is sort of a cross between a crisp, a rice cake and a prawn cracker. REAL D’lites have 70% less fat which is quite common now among fat reduced snacks.

Tastewise, the seasoning more than makes up for any loss of fat. The tomato and herb flavour has a lovely sweet taste (probably because of the sugar content) with the perfect balance of herby seasoning to give them a Mediterranean taste.

These are made by The Real Crisp Company and the packaging has a NEW symbol on the front. However, they were around last year so I’m not sure whether they’ve updated the recipe or they’re just using up old packaging stocks. I’ve only seen these in Boots so it could be they’re stopping production.

Nutrition Information per 20g bag: 84 calories, 0.2g protein, 16.0g carbohydrate, 3.2g sugars, 2.0g fat, 0.2g saturates, 0.5g fibre, 0.5g salt. Suitable for Vegetarians. High sugars, Medium fat, Low saturates, High salt.
