A slim potion, can it be true? After a quick scan of the label and check of the calories (just 13) I bought one to test it out.
As this bottle is so tiny, just 9cm (3.5") tall and holding only 60ml of liquid, it’s obviously not designed as an energy drink or thirst quencher. So what is it?
The label describes it as follows:
'iShot Skinny is a unique blend, combining the natural goodness of Acai Berries with Green Tea, L-Carnitine, Chromium, Bitter Orange Peel, Guarana and energy releasing B-vitamins.’
It says it’s not suitable for children, diabetics, during pregnancy or nursing, or people sensitive to caffeine. This is because it has a high caffeine content. Each bottle contains 78mg of caffeine, which is about the same as a single shot of a Starbucks espresso coffee.
Deciding to forgo my regular cappuccino one afternoon, I put the iShot Skinny to the test. Obviously I wasn’t expecting any life changing results. However, I was interested to see whether I felt any more energetic after drinking it and of course, find out what it tasted like.
From the outside of the bottle you can’t tell what the liquid looks like on the inside. The ingredients give away some clues. For example, acai berries, green tea, guarana and bitter orange peel. The result is a sort of murky dark orange colour (see photo).

I was somewhat wary about the taste though, especially as one of the ingredients is bitter orange peel. Drinking this is almost like drinking undiluted concentrated squash. It’s extremely sweet but has an undercurrent of bitterness, almost like a strong cough medicine. I could only really drink it one mouthful at a time and was glad there wasn’t more.
I can’t say I noticed any major changes in my energy levels. However, I wasn’t particularly hungry for sometime afterwards and anything that staves off snack attacks is good in my book.
Going by many of the positive reviews this drink has had, especially on Amazon, it appears that many slimmers use it as a weight loss aid.
Comments include: ‘I don’t feel the need to snack as much as I used to’, ‘I bought 2 weeks supply and after a week the weight started really coming off’ and ‘worth the money! Really tasty and has done wonders for me as i suffer ibs.’
There are more functional drinks in the iShot range including iShot Collagen Skin Potion and iShot All Night and All Day energy potions.
Judging by the awards they’ve won, it appears the iShot functional drinks really do work. As shown on their website, in 2011, iShot Skinny won the ‘Beverage Innovation functional drinks Award 2011’. This is the only global award dedicated to functional drinks.
And in 2012 it was a finalist in the ‘Best Weight Management Drink’ category. Also in 2012, the ‘iShot Collagen Skin Potion’ drink was the winner of the best beauty drink award in the ‘Beverage Innovation Functional Drinks Awards 2012’.
If you want to give it a 'shot' you can find iShot Skinny Slim Potion in some pharmacies and chemists, as well as Morrisons, Holland & Barratt and Amazon.
