Filippo Berio 100% Olive Oil Sprays - NEW

One of the easiest ways to cut calories when cooking, is to use less oil. Quite simply, there is nothing more calorie dense than pure oil, so using less can greatly decrease the calories in a meal. While some foods can be cooked using other methods such as steaming, poaching etc, sometimes you just need to have oil, to provide more flavour or prevent burning for example.

However, you can avoid adding too many calories by using an oil spray. These help make your oil go a lot further by covering a wider area of food with a light spray. This is virtually impossible to do when pouring it out of a bottle.

While there are a few oil sprays currently on the market, here are two new pump sprays from Filippo Berio which contain 100% pure olive oil. They have no added water, alcohol, emulsifiers, antioxidants or aerosol propellant.

One teaspoon of Filippo Berio Olive oil contains 41 calories. So with around 10 sprays of the pump to fill one teaspoon, each spray contains just 4 calories.

Although this is a pump spray, the oil is dispensed more as a short jet of oil rather than a fine spray. However, by holding the bottle at arms length from the food, you can cover a wider area as it does spray out more at the end of the jet stream!

There is a choice of ‘Mild & Light Olive Oil which is recommended for frying and roasting. It has no taste of olive so can be used in a wide range of sweet or savoury dishes. The other is ‘Extra Virgin Olive Oil’ which is ideal for dressing and flavouring your food.

The Mild & Light Olive oil is used in a slightly different way when cooking. For example, when frying, you should spray it onto a cold pan first. And when cooking meat, chicken or fish, simply spray the food instead of pouring oil into a roasting tin or frying pan. It’s also ideal for greasing baking trays.

The Extra Virgin Olive Oil can be sprayed onto vegetables to add flavour, used for dressing salads, or sprayed onto grilled meats, chicken and fish. It can also be used to spray onto oven roasted vegetables and potatoes and used to prevent pasta from sticking.

Filippo Berio Olive Oil is the only major Italian producer that has remained independent and they have been family owned and run since 1867.

Available in 200ml pump spray bottles.
