Easy White Chocolate Mousse

This is a recipe which was once featured in a Slimming World Magazine. It’s quick and easy to make and has few ingredients. Best of all, this pretty dessert looks impressive and is low in calories.

The following ingredients are enough to serve four people and it takes around 10-15 minutes to put the recipe together.

Because it's quite rich and filling, I generally use half the quantity of the original recipe. Doing this brings the calorie count down to just 72 calories per bowl.

Here's what you need:

White Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients:

Serves 4:  (From the original recipe)

4 x 11g sachets Options Wicked White hot chocolate powder (176 calories)
500g pot Total 0% Fat Greek Yogurt (285 calories)
3 tbsp artificial sweetener (15 calories)
½ tsp vanilla extract
Whites of 2 large eggs* (34 calories)
Raspberries to decorate (15 calories)
30g white chocolate buttons to decorate (165 calories)
Icing sugar to dust (20 calories)

Overall calories (approx.) = 710; Syns 4.5.

When dishing it up for four people, each White Chocolate Mousse has 177 calories. Now it’s really up to you to decide how many calories you want your dessert to have. Using the original recipe above makes four large desserts.

Now for the four easy steps:

Method:

Step 1: In a large bowl mix together the hot chocolate powder, sweetener, vanilla extract and the yogurt.

Step 2: Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until they stand in soft peaks. Gently fold into the yogurt mixture using a large metal spoon. Folding gently helps keep the mousse light and airy.

Step 3: Spoon the mixture out evenly into your dishes and chill until you’re ready to serve. (No longer than 2 hours or the mixture may separate).

Step 4: Decorate each mousse with fresh raspberries, white chocolate buttons and a dusting of icing sugar.

And that’s it!

Tips and Suggestions:
  • This recipe for White Chocolate Mousse can easily be adapted to suit your tastes. Swap the white hot chocolate powder for any other flavour from the Options range or use your own favourite hot chocolate.
  • Decorate with different fruit and chocolate or leave it out altogether.
  • Greek yogurt is wonderfully thick so works best with this recipe. But you could use fat free fromage frais instead.
  • Use fewer chocolate buttons as decoration to lower the calorie count. Each chocolate button has around 6 calories each. I use 4 buttons.
  • You may find you don't need four sachets of Options. Using one less packet will save you another 44 calories.
The way I make this dessert as shown in the photos, using half the recipe, 4 buttons and three Options packs (9 teaspoons from a jar), each White Chocolate Mousse dessert has only 72 calories when served up for four people.

Bon apetit.
