Truvia Calorie-Free Sweetener

Truvia® calorie-free sweetener is one of the latest sugar substitutes using Stevia to hit the supermarket shelves. It made its grand entrance into the UK market in January 2012, but is already a leading global brand.

Truvia gets its sweetness from the Stevia Leaf and it's 30-times sweeter than sugar.

To extract the sweetness, the Stevia leaves are steeped in water, similar to making a cup of tea. This helps unlock the best tasting part of the leaf, which is then purified to provide a calorie-free sweet taste.

Truvia, distributed by Silver Spoon, is available as a granulated table top sweetener. Currently, there’s the choice of a 270g plastic recyclable jar with a flip top lid so you can measure out as much as you need. Alternatively, you can buy the sachets which come in packs of 60 or 120.

A single sachet sweetens like one teaspoon of sugar and has zero calories. If you’re using the granulated sweetener from the jar, you only need one third of a teaspoon for the equivalent sweetness of a teaspoon of regular sugar. This is also worth zero calories.

If you've tried other granulated style zero-calorie sweeteners but found them too different to sugar, then you might like Truvia because it has just the same crunchy texture but without the calories.

You can use Truvia instead of regular sugar in hot drinks and for sprinkling on cereal etc. It’s easy to spot among the sweeteners with its bright green and white packaging.

Stores which stock Truvia include Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose.
