I'm Caroline, the author of Diets and Calories. Having spent many years off and on various diets, I realise just how important it is to keep track of calorie intake when you're trying to lose or maintain weight.

These days, when it comes to grocery shopping, finding the calorie content on packaged food is easier than ever before. Packaging labels also display other valuable information including ingredients and a nutritional breakdown. This helps us make an informed choice before deciding whether we should pop that item into our shopping basket or leave it on the shelf.

On this blog you'll find reviews of various products available in major supermarkets which are either 'diet' or 'low calorie', the majority of which, have been purchased and consumed by me and my family. I've also provided a traffic light guide and nutritional information of products reviewed.

With new arrivals appearing weekly, it can be hard keeping up with them! There are also many products that don't have the word DIET on them, so may sometimes be overlooked in the hunt for low calorie food options. Please note that the food and drink products shown on this site have been found in UK supermarkets so may not be available worldwide.

Nowadays, slimmers are spoilt for choice as it's possible to find a lower calorie variety of nearly every type of food. Of course, it's always best to stick with fresh, unprocessed produce, but these days many of us rely on ready packaged convenience foods as a handy standby. Therefore, it's good to know there are lower calorie and increasingly, healthy versions of many of these food products.

Many diet and non-diet products contain artificial sweeteners and/or preservatives. As such, this site does not make any claims that the food products shown here are 'healthy' (unless it's in reference to packaging statements, or it really is healthy). The food and drink items posted here are simply shown as 'diet' or 'low calorie' products that may help people trying to lose weight when included as part of a calorie controlled diet.

You may notice there are quite a few posts on chocolate, including 'calories in popular chocolate bars'. It probably doesn't quite fit into the general subject area of this blog. However, I love chocolate and couldn't give it up completely. It's perfectly possible to keep weight stable by eating chocolate - just keep the portions small. My calories in popular chocolate bars shows you how many calories chocolate bars have and how much you can eat for around 100 calories.

The aim of this blog is to save you time searching for low calorie or diet friendly products in the stores and I will be adding new items as and when I find them. Feel free to email me with any products you'd like to see included on the site.
