Mochi Ice Cream Little Moons Vanilla Review

Little moons mochi ice cream vanillaTo be honest, I’d never heard of Mochi ice cream until my daughter kept talking about them, then demanding I buy ingredients to make them!

But a much easier way of sampling a mochi ice cream is to buy them and Little Moons sell a wide variety of flavours. Each box contains 6 mochi ice creams with calories per mochi ranging from 64 up to around 84 calories.

Mochi is type of Japanese rice cake and mochi ice creams have a layer of of this rice cake wrapped around the outside.

I decided to buy a box of vanilla Mochi ice creams as that's my favourite ice cream flavour. They are already portion sized with an average of around 70 calories each. They’re not cheap though at £4.99 for a box of 6 x 32g mochi ice creams.

They come packed inside a cardboard box with each mochi sitting inside a hollowed out space in a plastic tray.

If you want you can eat the mochi holding it in your hand as the mochi outer prevents the ice cream from melting in your hand. It is a strange texture if you haven’t tried it before. It’s sort of chewy and slightly grainy with a sweet taste. It then dissolves in your mouth. The ice cream is delicious, smooth and creamy with a subtle vanilla taste.

What they say:

‘Some ice creams can consist of up to 90% air, not ours. The higher density of our gelato means it's not as soft straight out the freezer but results in a more intense flavour with patience.’

They are high in sugar with each mochi containing around 2 teaspoons of sugar.

I’d definitely buy these again, but not too often because they are expensive!
