Ben & Jerry’s Salted Caramel Brownie Ice Cream

Ben & Jerrys salted caramel brownie light ice creamBen & Jerry’s ice cream is amazingly delicious, but not something you want to eat on a regular basis if you’re watching your weight.

Luckily for those of us who love ice cream, there are lots of new style ice creams on the market with a much reduced calorie content. Mostly this is because they’ve replaced sugar with a sweetener such as stevia.

But Ben & Jerry’s Light Ice Cream version hasn’t done this. Instead they’ve reduced the fat content to reduce the calories, stating it has 50% less fat than similar ice creams.

I’ve rarely bought a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream because in my household it’d be gone in a day. Not only is it quite expensive, it’s high in fat, sugar and calories.

Their new ‘Light’ Moo-phoria Ben & Jerry’s Salted Caramel Brownie has one third fewer calories than the regular version, and has a medium fat content but is still high in sugars.

If you are serving by the scoop, each scoop has 62 calories.

This can’t be directly compared with other lower calorie ice creams such as Oppo, Halo Top and Jude’s because it is still high in sugar. So rather than the entire tub having around 350 calories, Ben & Jerry’s Light ice cream has 608 calories per 500ml (306g) tub.

So what does it taste like?

In a word, heaven!

Oh my goodness, this is simply delicious. Smooth creamy ice cream with rich swirls of caramel. And those little brownie pieces are chewy, fudgy and had me demanding hubby take the tub away from me.

Needless to say, this tub of ice cream didn’t last much longer than a day. Yes it has fewer calories and reduced fat, but that high sugar content is addictive. This is an ice cream I’d only buy for special occasions because it’s just so moorish.

I've since purchased the Caramel Cookie Fix and everything I wrote above applies to this flavour too!
