Rhythm 108 Vegan Gluten Free Snacks Review

Vegan must be the most popular word right now. Everywhere you turn, food producers, marketers, chefs, you name them, are all developing vegan recipes. Other popular terms are ‘gluten free’ and ‘dairy free’.

So if you’re looking for snacks that fit the above criteria, here is a new selection of chocolate bars and biscuits by Swiss bakers Rhythm 108. While not particularly low in calories, they are all gluten free, dairy free and suitable for vegans. They also boast having 47% less sugar than comparable bars and cap each bar at 8g of sugar without compromising taste or quality.

Their range includes Sweet N Salty, Hazelnut Praline, and Super Coconut.

I was sent a selection of Rhythm 108 snacks for review purposes. This included Tea Biscuits and Chocolate bars.

What the company says:
‘Rhythm 108 simply believe it’s the small things in life that make the biggest difference! So, from a small bakery nestled in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, Rhythm 108 use their creativity and their Patisserie skills to reinvent your favourite, most indulgent treats with wholesome and natural ingredients, so you never have to miss out on the fun!
Eat real. Be real.’
There are 3 chocolate bar varieties:

Hazelnut Praline, Sweet ‘n’ Salty and Super Coconut

They’re all high in fibre and are at least 45% less sugar than regular chocolate bars. I received a Hazelnut Praline and a Sweet ‘n’ Salty to try out. My youngest helped me out with sampling these!

Both bars are covered in a thin layer of dark chocolate with a truffle like consistency inside. The Hazelnut one has quinoa and oats in the middle while the Sweet ‘n’ Salty has almonds and oats which helps boost the fibre content.

These chocolate bars are lovely, we particularly liked the truffle inside. You wouldn’t know the chocolate wasn’t made from milk, they’re not too sweet and we both enjoyed these.

The Hazelnut bar I received was a bit off colour on the outside with a white coating which I believe occurs due to moisture. It didn't affect the taste though.

They are small and can be eaten very quickly! At around 190 calories each, they're not something to choose if you’re trying to lose weight. But if you’re vegan, allergic to dairy or gluten intolerant, then these are a very tasty treat made with natural organic ingredients.

I was also sent a selection of tea biscuits. These included:

Lemon Ginger Chia, Chocolate Hazelnut, Coconut Cookie and Almond Biscotti.

The Lemon, Coconut and Almond were in sharing bags (135g) and the chocolate hazelnut were in a 2 pack serving.

The biscuits are made using oat flour rather than regular wheat, so if you have a problem tolerating oats, these won’t be for you.

All the biscuits have a similar consistency. Crunchy but also light and slightly crumbly, easy to bite into. The flavours are all very distinct, with the coconut my overall favourite. The Almond biscotti, adored by my daughter, wasn’t liked by me as it tastes like marzipan, which I don't like. The Lemon Ginger Chia was lovely as well, with the zesty lemon the first flavour coming through but the ginger becomes more apparent after a few chews.

The sharing bag biscuits are a nice size – just 8g each and if you can stop at just one or two, great! If not, start sharing, fast.

The 24g single serve packs contain 2 biscuits. The Chocolate Hazelnut biscuits shown below were popular with everyone in my family. The have a similar texture to the sharing bag biscuits but these have more of a chocolate taste.

While these snacks may be an option for those with intolerances or who are vegan, they’re not a ‘healthy’ snack. They’re still high in fat, calories, saturated fat and sugar, although less sugar than regular chocolate bars.

They are a source of protein and fibre and as well as having decent organic ingredients, they taste delicious.

Find them in Planet Organic, Marks & Spencer, Health foods stores, Amazon, Boots, Ocado, WH Smith, Costa Coffee, Revital, Fortnum & Mason, Barrecore, as Nature Intended, Coop, BP, and other outlets.

  1. God above imIalreaI'm sick to death of this stupid bloody faddy diet. The worst part is that they're using it as some kind of legitimate weight loss fix, whilst also being the same lot preaching diet advice, namely the "don't follow far diets" line.

Or maybe it's that they call sometimes not consuming animal products "being/going vegan".

Like the ones calling an omnivorous diet "flexitarian", so they can be differentiated from the rest of the human bastard species.
