easyJet Menu Choices Review

Not so long ago if you took a flight anywhere, you’d be served free food and drink during your journey, even if it was just a short flight from the UK to Europe. But those days are gone and now your choice is eat nothing or buy from the on-board selection.

I don’t often fly anywhere, but when I do, I like to bring my own snacks just in case there’s nothing healthy to choose from. A few weeks ago I flew on easyJet for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at their menu choice.

I was fully expecting the usual unhealthy fare of sandwiches, rolls, chocolates and sweet fizzy drinks. And yes, there they were. But there were quite a few healthier options for those who want something to eat but don’t want to load up on refined carbs.

Here are my recommendations for healthier options from the menu in November 2018:

Meal Deal page – Choose A main
  • Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap (New) (Pulled chicken breast in a sweet chilli sauce, cherry tomatoes, lettuce with a hint of coriander and mint, served in a tortilla wrap.)
  • Mezze Snack Box (Vegan) (Green olives, red pepper dip, houmous, rosemary crackers and baklava -the baklava is high sugar and fat so maybe give this one away!)

Meal Deal page – Add a drink
  • Harrogate still/sparkling water, Clipper tea, Segafredo coffee. Ideally not the diet fizzy drinks as they’re sweetened with aspartame.
  • Real Olive Co Olives.
Nothing else healthy here!

  • Savoury Snacks
  • Real Olive Co Olives
  • Love Corn BBQ
  • Grate Britain Cheddar Crackers – likely higher in salt from the cheese and crackers and high fat from the cheese, but contains calcium and protein. 190 calories for the pack. Reasonable amount of protein and fibre, low sugar, medium fat leels but quite high in salt which may make you thirsty and want to purchase more to drink!

Light Meals

MOMA porridge – plain or Coconut & Chia Seed. The Chia version is low sugar and has a decent amount of protein which should help with the fullness factor and 250 calories a pot. The plain version is 250 calories a pot, low fat and low sugar and 12g of protein per pot.

Other healthier options include:

  • Heinz Tomato soup
  • Mezze Snack Box (Vegan)
  • Kabuto Rice Noodles Chicken Ramen (A fresh tasting noodle dish with chicken, ginger, chilli, coriander & spring onion inspired by Chicken Ramen recipes from Japan, this is our take on the classic noodle dish.)
A low sugar, low fat choice with minimal protein only 2.9% chicken and even fewer vegetables. Still, it’s a better choice than the high saturated fat croissant.

SkyBar

Personally, I’m not much of a drinker, even on planes, and I’m a very nervous flyer! However I totally get that many people like a drink while flying. If you want an alcoholic drink, choose a clear spirit such as the vodka or gin with light tonic water. Beers, wine, dark spirits and cider are more likely to leave you dehydrated and are higher in calories and sugar.

Of course the menu will change from time to time, but it’s good to know that easyJet do provide healthier options for those who are trying to eat a healthier diet.
