Whole Earth Sweetener with Stevia Review

I first came across the new Whole Earth Sweetener Co. sweeteners while in a branch of Starbucks. I sweeten my coffee with Truvia but noticed they’d replaced their regular Truvia packets with Whole Earth 0 cal sweetener packets.

Examining the packet more closely, I realised it's another Stevia sweetener, like Truvia, which is bulked up with erythritol. Each packet has zero calories and is equivalent to the sweetness of one teaspoon of sugar.

Whole Earth Sweetener Co. have brought out 4 different versions of sweetener with stevia/erythritol:

• Granulated available in a 250g resealable plastic packet
• Granulated available in individual sachets (only seen in coffee shops so far)!
• Sweet Mini Cubes in a handy pocket sized tin.

Cubes: 1 cube = teaspoon of sugar in sweetness
Granules: half a teaspoon = 1 teaspoon of sugar in sweeteness.

The individual packets don’t state their sugar sweetness equivalent. However they contain around half a teaspoon of sweetener, so I’d say they were equivalent to 1 teaspoon of sugar.

I love the little cubes and the tin they come in is really cute. They take around 30 seconds to dissolve completely when added to hot drinks and sweeten just the same as the loose granules.

The Whole Earth sweetener is very similar to Truvia, but the granules are a bit finer. I find the Whole Earth brand sweeter than Truvia and didn’t notice any bitter aftertaste. Although the ingredients are very similar, I prefer the Whole Earth brand. Perhaps it has something to do with the ‘natural flavourings’, although I’ve no idea what they are!

Stevia granulated sweeteners are expensive compared to sugar so I’m always checking out the prices in different supermarkets. Truvia is very rarely on offer.

Truvia granulated sweetener in a 270g jar costs £5.00 (£1.85 per 100g) while the Whole Earth sweet granules cost £4.25 per 250g pouch (£1.70 per 100g).

Alternatively, there is another similar version from Canderel who also have a Stevia/erythritol blended sweetener. Theirs is available in a 275g glass jar for £4.50 (£1.63 per 100g)

Excessive consumption may produce laxative effects.

There is also a honey with Stevia and Brown sugar with Stevia produced by the same company.
