Nu Me Air Dried Vegetable Crisps Review

While searching through the nuts and seeds section in Morrisons, I spotted these little packets of air dried fruit and vegetable crisps. I noticed they were part of the NuMe brand which is Morrison’s healthier option range.

Quickly scanning the front of the packs shows they’re all low in calories. Nothing higher than 68 calories per pack. There were three varieties: Apple Crisps, Beetroot Crisps and Carrot Crisps.

I don't know whether there are any more varieties than the three I purchased, but I was more than happy to buy one of each because they were so reasonably priced. Just 70p a pack. I've had to pay over twice as much for packs of dried kale, which I've always thought a total rip off. So this was a welcome surprise.

Packs are small and light, just 20g in weight. However there are loads of crisps inside the packs. Because they’re high in fibre and dehydrated, they become softer and swell up as you’re eating them. This helps make them a more filling snack than they might otherwise seem.

I found that eating these with a cup of tea left me feeling substantially more full up than I normally would after eating a small snack.

The beetroot crisps remind me of counters – the sort you use in a game like Connect 4. They even sound like a bag of counter when you shake the pack.

Despite being described as ‘ridiculously moreish air-dried crisps’, I'm not sure whether these would be to everyone's taste. You really need to like the actual vegetable or fruit because that's what you get.

The taste isn't disguised by loads of extra flavourings, salt, fat or sugar. Personally, I like the taste and will definitely be purchasing these again.

I also like that these veg and fruit crisps are minimally processed. They have one ingredient plus the lemon juice concentrate which is used to preserve the colour. Then they're just dehydrated. They're pretty much the result you'd get if you were using your own dehydrator at home.

They're all low in fat and saturated fat and high in fibre, which is great. All are high in sugar. The reason for this is because apples, carrots and beetroot are naturally sweet, so when they're dehydrated, the sugars are concentrated. If you're concerned about sugar intake, this is something to take into consideration when eating these snacks.

The Beetroot Crisps are also high in salt. However, this isn't due to any added salt. Beets are naturally high in sodium, so, as with the sugar, this too has been concentrated.

Each pack is worth 2 Weight Watchers Pro Points (as calculated by Morrisons using information published by Weight Watchers Int’l Inc.)
