Celebrities Superfood Secrets!

While health professionals are aware of the nutritional benefits of superfoods, it's often not until a 'celebrity' is seen to be extolling the wonders of kale or chia seeds, then the rest of us want to see what it's all about? Well, some of us do.

Being someone who hasn't the slightest interest in celebrity culture, I am impressed by the following choice of superfoods certain celebrities are taking up. Victoria Beckham and Bee Pollen for example.

The Chia Co Oats & Chia Porridge Review

As anyone who shops for breakfast cereals will have noticed, the variety of porridge oats available is enormous. It's crazy. I don't even bother looking at the vast array of instant pots and packets any more, it's too overwhelming. Instead I just head for the large packs of plain oats. They're a whole lot cheaper and I can add my own choice of extras if I choose.

However, this new arrival from The Chia Co. did happen to stand out. Oats + Chia is available in two varieties: Banana & Mango and Mixed Berry.

Smooze Dairy Free Fruit & Coconut Ice Lollies

Smooze are a fairly new arrival in the frozen ice lolly section. No sooner had I read about them in a newspaper, when I came across their stand at the Allergy and Free From show at Olympia in London.

Capitalising on the coconut milk trend and catering to those who are gluten free or vegan, Smooze ice lollies are probably suitable for most people. There are four varieties, all coconut based: Coconut & Mango67 calories; Coconut & Pink Guava65 calories; Coconut & Pineapple68 calories and Simply Coconut112 calories.

How Much Sugar is in Ice Lollies?

As it's summer, slurping on an ice lolly is something many of us enjoy. They're refreshing and often don't have that many calories. However, despite the low calorie count, the majority still have added sugars and are in the red light traffic zone, indicating HIGH sugar content.

To help you see at a glance how much sugar is in popular ice lollies, I've compiled a chart showing how many calories each bar has, as well as how many teaspoons of sugar per lolly. A sugar count shown in red indicates high sugar and those in orange are medium. If you hover the cursor over the brand name, you can see exactly what ingredients are in each ice lolly. You may be in for a shock!

Outline of the Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet is one that is gathering momentum almost as fast as the interest in going gluten free! There are many reasons why people choose to live the Paleo way. It can be a way to lose weight. But for many it makes life much simpler.

It’s not an easy diet to follow. Food choices are parred right down to the basics and much of the wide variety of food choices available today are no longer allowed. However, it can seem healthier and indeed, many people have found living on a Paleo diet has helped them regain their health.

Tate & Lyle Sugar with Stevia – It's Back

This is just a quick post to update you on Tate & Lyle’s disappearing Light at Heart Stevia blends.

It was three years ago that I reviewed Light at Heart in this post. This was about the time that Stevia as an ingredient started becoming prominent in the UK as a natural alternative to sugar.

INVO Blushing Pink Coconut Water Review

Stocking up on a few supplies in Holland and Barratt recently, I noticed a new brand of coconut water in the fridge section. Great, I thought, here's another one to add to my coconut water post. But on noticing the price (£2.69 for a 300ml bottle) I nearly didn’t bother.

What intrigued me about this INVO coconut water was its colour. Although it contained pure coconut water, it was coloured pink!

After a brief chat with the assistant, she assured me the pinkness was a natural phenomenon and that it was quite normal. So I purchased a bottle and took it home.

Koko Dairy Free Coconut Milk Review

Koko dairy free coconut milk is a cholesterol free, lactose free and soya free alternative to cows milk.

After having tried several brands of coconut milk, Koko Dairy Free is my favourite. It has a subtle coconut flavour and closely mimics the texture of regular milk. Some other coconut milk drinks have an almost oily texture which my taste buds don't take to. The other great thing about this milk alternative, is it is low in calories – just 27 calories per 100ml.
