Muller Light Low Calorie Desserts Review

Muller Light dessertsMuller Light have a new dessert range aimed at those looking for a sweet treat without the hefty calorie tag. The flavours are: Mischievous Milk Chocolate, Frivolous Fudge Dessert and Wickedly White Chocolate Dessert.

I spotted these about 10 weeks ago, all on sale at £1 each. As the calories were low I decided to see what they were like. Not able to choose between the flavours, I bought one of each. All three varieties are sold as a four pack – 4 x 100g pots with calories varying from 88 to 99 per pot.

I mainly bought these desserts for my kids. I’d rather they ate natural yogurt with fruit, but they all refuse to eat it and sometimes it’s just easier having something they can quickly grab from the fridge.

Generally if it’s low in calories I don’t mind so much. But lately I’m becoming more concerned about how much sugar and/or artificial sweeteners products contain and unfortunately, these desserts have both - sugar AND Aspartame and Acesulfame K.

On the calorie front, the Milk Chocolate and the White Chocolate both have 99 calories per 100g pot, while the Fudge has 88 calories.

They’re all very sweet tasting, and the desserts have a light, smooth and silky texture. Eating them with a teaspoon makes them last longer. They’re not filling in any way, so are probably best for when you want something sweet after a main course but are too full for anything rich.

Here are the ingredients for the Muller Light Dessert Frivolous Fudge flavour:

Ingredients: Reconstituted Skimmed Milk, Sugar, Cream (Milk), Modified Maize Starch, Stabilisers: Pectins, Carob Bean Gum; Sweeteners: Aspartame, Acesulfame K; Colour: Annatto; Caramelised Sugar Syrup, Flavouring, Salt.

As you can see, this flavor also has caramelised sugar syrup, yet another layer of sugar. Not sure why they have to use quite so much sugar and sweetener - overall it's around 2.5 teaspoons of sugar per pot.

So although they tasted nice and they are low in fat and salt, I won't be buying these on a regular basis (sorry kids). I simply no longer feel comfortable buying products with so many types of sweeteners when it's for my children so I’ll be searching for more natural products with less of the added stuff.

Suitable for Vegetarians.

Nutrition Information per 100g pot (Fudge): 88 calories, 2.8g protein, 14.5g carbs, 10.8g sugars, 2.0g fat, 1.2g saturates, 0.1g fibre, 0.1g sodium.

  1. The sugars actually aren't that bad. On weight watchers these are 2 points probably cause sweeteners aren't counted that's why. However fat free yogurts are exactly the same as 2 points. So don't panic too much. You may find there is just the same amount cause even though its not counted cause u cant measure the sugar in fruit there is alot of "natural" sugar in fruit. So 2.5 teaspoons is not too bad.
