Tesco Light Choices Chicken Tikka Masala & Rice

Chicken Tikka Masala is a popular Indian takeaway and ready meal. However, depending on where you buy it, you may find it's loaded with fat and calories. This version from the Tesco Light Choices brand is a ready meal with 50% less fat than a typical Tesco Indian prepared meal.

Ready meals often get a bad reputation for being high in unhealthy fats, calories and salt. But Light Choices Chicken Tikka Masala gets a healthy green light for all main nutrition criteria including sugar, fat, saturated fat and salt. It also comes in at a respectable 440 calories for the whole pack.

The Tesco Light Choices Chicken Tikka Masala & Rice is described as:

‘Pieces of chicken breast in a Masala sauce made with coriander and served with pilau rice.’

There is quite a lot in this pack and when served with some extra vegetables, is plenty to serve two people, thereby cutting the calories even lower. The rice is delicate and fluffy, while the chicken pieces are mildly spiced and covered with the delicious Masala sauce.

Before cooking
It provides a great source of protein with 31g for the whole meal. Inspecting the ingredients list, it’s good to see it contains just regular spices, herbs, rice and chicken. None of those strange, hard to pronounce ingredients that you’d never find in your own kitchen cupboard!

It’s suitable for freezing and can be cooked in the microwave from frozen or chilled. It’s not suitable for cooking in the oven.

Available in Tesco stores in the ready meals section.

Nutrition Information per 400g meal: 440 calories, 31.0g protein, 57.2g carbohydrate, 9.0g sugar, 7.8g fat, 2.6g saturates, 7.6g fibre, 1.4g salt. 11 Weight Watchers ProPoints as calculated by Tesco.
