Finn Crisp Plus – 5 Wholegrains Thin Crispbreads

I eat crispbreads virtually every day and generally stick to my favourites (Ryvita Thins and Sunflower Seeds & Oats). However, I’m not averse to trying out different varieties from time to time, especially if they look healthy.

So when I discovered these Finn Crisp cripsbreads made with 5 wholegrains and only 30 calories each, I decided to try them out.

Weight Watchers 4 Petits Pains - Part-baked Baguettes

There's nothing quite like the smell of hot, freshly baked bread straight out of the oven.

Even if you're not into baking your own bread, you can still create this gorgeous aroma in your own kitchen by cooking part-baked bread or baguettes.

If you're trying to lose weight or following the Weight Watchers ProPoints plan, Weight Watchers have their own ‘part-baked’ petit pains (little bread) baguettes which have 111 calories each and 3 ProPoints.

Old El Paso Mini Super Soft Tortillas

My family adore Mexican food and fortunately it takes only minutes to prepare a tasty and authentic looking dish.

Without a doubt, their favourites are those they can eat with their hands, like fajitas for example. And one of the main ingredients for these meals are tortilla wraps, which thankfully are widely available in most stores.

Part of the Old El Paso Mexican range now includes these Super Soft Mini Flour Tortillas. They have 40% less fat than their previous formulation and only 87 calories each.

Healthier Choice Cottage Cheese with Pineapple

This pineapple cottage cheese is from the Co-Operative’s Healthier Choice range. It’s low in fat and saturates and has 100 calories per half a pot (125g).

It’s a mild tasting cottage cheese with smaller than average lumpy bits (if that’s how you can describe them). This makes it quite good for spreading. Despite the reasonably high 20 percent pineapple content, the cottage cheese itself doesn’t taste too much like pineapple which was a bit of a disappointment.

Pots contain 250g with half the pot being the recommended serving size. There's a British flag on the front stating that it’s made using fresh British milk and on the ingredient list it says the pineapple is from Thailand.

It's good to see the Co-operative are using the traffic light colouring scheme so you can easily see how healthy the products are.

This cheese is a good choice for slimmers or anyone looking to lower their fat content. The salt and sugar levels only just miss out on a green light, being slightly over the threshhold for healthy levels.

Suitable for vegetarians. Available in branches of The Co-operative.

Nutrition information per 100g: 80 calories, 9.7g protein, 7.8g carbohydrate, 7.7g sugar, 1.2g fat, 0.8g saturates, 0.5g fibre, 0.4g salt.

Tesco Light Choices Chicken Tikka Masala & Rice

Chicken Tikka Masala is a popular Indian takeaway and ready meal. However, depending on where you buy it, you may find it's loaded with fat and calories. This version from the Tesco Light Choices brand is a ready meal with 50% less fat than a typical Tesco Indian prepared meal.

Ready meals often get a bad reputation for being high in unhealthy fats, calories and salt. But Light Choices Chicken Tikka Masala gets a healthy green light for all main nutrition criteria including sugar, fat, saturated fat and salt. It also comes in at a respectable 440 calories for the whole pack.

Slimsticks High Fibre Weight Loss Aid

For most of us, gaining weight is a piece of cake (excuse the pun), while losing it is both a physical and emotional hardship.

Despite many diet plans endeavouring to keep slimmers full, some people feel they need a bit of extra help and turn to over-the-counter slimming pills or potions.

These might be in the form of herbal supplements or pills which claim to speed up metabolism, hence burning off calories faster. Some state they bind fat which prevents it from being absorbed, while others promise to fill you up, so you’re less likely to snack.

Slimsticks fall into the latter category of filling you up’.

Steamed ready meals are becoming very popular and you’ll find them in the chiller cabinets of most larger supermarkets. But this version by Weight Watchers from Heinz is a bit different as it's frozen.

Nature’s Store Mini Organic Chocolate Rice Cakes

Plain rice cakes are usually a good choice of snack when you’re trying to cut down on calories, fat, salt and sugar. But, to be honest, they’re not the tastiest of snacks to munch on.

Fortunately, there are a few varieties that have livened the boring rice cake up a bit, while still remaining relatively low in calories. And if you’re the kind of person who likes their snacks to be free of everything (well, nearly everything), as well as organic, then you might like these rice cakes from Nature's Store.

Arctic Roll (Sainsbury’s Ice Cream Roll) - NEW

According to a recent reports, sales of Arctic Rolls are up by more than 40 percent since last year. The original Arctic Rolls made by Birds Eye, were a popular British dessert in the 70’s and 80’s but gradually fell out of favour over the following years.

However, since the economic downturn, the Arctic Roll has been resurrected (by various manufacturers) as consumers search for cheaper food.

Outline of the 5:2 Diet - Intermittent Fasting

Anyone who finds it impossible sticking to a diet for longer than a few days, may find more success with the 5:2 diet method.

The 5:2 diet plan shot to fame after British TV presenter, Michael Mosley, put the diet to the test for BBC2's Horizon programme (Eat, Fast and Live Longer).

This is a diet with a difference. Rather than resigning yourself to an indefinite period of food restrictions and dietary changes, you only diet for two days a week. The rest of the time you eat what you like. The ultimate ‘part-time’ diet.

Marks & Spencer Chargrilled Chicken Curry

Marks and Spencer have introduced another food range called 'Fuller Longer'. This range of meals are high in protein with balanced carbohydrates which should help us stay fuller for longer.  And as long as we're full, we should be less inclined to start snacking.
Anyway, there are loads of lovely looking ready meals to enjoy, and since they were on special offer this week, I decided to buy a few to see what they were like. The first to try was the NEW Chargrilled Chicken Curry in a Fragrant Curry Sauce with 340 calories per meal.

20 Potato Crisps and Snacks Under 100 Calories

They’re crisp, crunchy, tasty and everywhere! If you’re after a quick snack, you can be sure there'll be a crisp seller nearby. In fact, according to research, potato crisps are the UK's most popular product in the snack foods market, accounting for just under 50 percent of sales in this sector.

But crisps aren't the healthiest of snacks. Most are fried in oil and coated in salt, ingredients which help them taste great, but also makes them deceptively high in calories. Those feather light packs could set you back 200 calories or more for a single serving.

Shopping and Saving Money at mySupermarket

Although I do the majority of grocery shopping online, I still spend far too much time on foot, trudging around supermarket aisles, in search of new healthy arrivals and bargains.
As for supermarket loyalty – forget it. With skyrocketing prices and dodgy offers, I'm afraid loyalty to one store has gone right out the window.

That was until I discovered another kind of supermarket – one which you won’t find on any high street or out of town mega-mall. This is a supermarket that allows you to be as fickle as you want, flitting between one store to another, saving you money without leaving your chair.
