Graze Box Review - Keen Bean

Graze Box Delivery Date: 16 November 2012

Another interesting selection of nibbles arrived in my fortnightly Graze box this week, with just the one new snack to report on.

This one is called ‘Keen Bean’. It's new to me but not to Graze, although the lid is displaying an ‘improved recipe’ symbol on it.

To make up the four snacks, the other Graze nibbles received were: White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake, reviewed in week 19, Bounty Hunter (coconut flakes, cranberries and milk chocolate drops) first reviewed in week 2, and a fairly new addition to the Graze selection - Crunchini Basilico (basil and olive breadsticks with basil flavoured olive oil dip) reviewed in week 22.

Keen Bean

Keen Bean is quite similar to another snack (Yaki Soba) which I recently reviewed. Keen Bean contains red skin peanuts and a mixture of dried edamame beans and dried chilli broad beans (which are also found in Yaki Soba).

This snack has been given a ‘fibre’ symbol meaning it’s a good source of fibre. Each punnet has 2.1g of fibre or 6.7g per 100g. The combination of ingredients makes for a very crunchy, savoury snack. With chilli in the ingredients, this is the type of snack I’d rather eat in the afternoon.

Although I love edamame beans, in dried form they do lose some of their taste and to my taste buds, they're a bit ‘cardboardy’. The dried chilli broad beans are pleasantly flavoured with some sort of chilli flavoured spice which is where most of the flavour in this snack comes from.

I’ve never even heard of red skin peanuts so I was looking forward to tasting them. However, they weren’t anything like I was expecting. The red skin is like a very thin parchment which is completely edible. The inside tastes nothing like peanuts. The only thing I can really compare them to is a raw pulse, for example, lentils or split peas before they’ve been cooked.

Overall, this is quite a salty snack and not my favourite, tastewise. However, the chilli broad beans more than make up for the lack of taste in the other ingredients. Also, since there are lots of tiny beans to nibble on, it can take quite a while getting through them, especially if you eat them one at a time as I do. This is good because you end up feeling fuller and more satisfied this way.

I’m giving this snack a rating of LIKE. This means I’d like it sent occasionally.

Calories for the snack: 155.
