Cadbury Instant Hot Chocolate Cups

If there are no clean cups available for your hot chocolate, don't worry, Cadbury’s have just the thing – vending machine style cups for your own home.

Cadbury’s Instant Hot Chocolate is available in ready-to-drink plastic cups. All you have to do is open the pack, twist off the bottom cup, boil some water, let it cool a bit, pour it into the cup, stir and drink.

Original Melba Toasts, Van der Meulen

Melba toast is the ideal type of food to include in a calorie controlled diet. Because they’re so thin, they have very few calories, averaging around 12-14 calories per slice.

Melba toast is traditionally made by toasting a piece of bread, then carefully slicing it through the middle to create two thin slices. The other side is then toasted, with the resulting slices becoming very dry and crunchy.

Wandering around Poundland last week in search of some cleaning products, I inevitably found myself browsing the food section. There's always a good selection of Weight Watchers products here, but often you’ll find products for sale that don't seem to be sold in regular supermarkets.

One such item is hot chocolate drinks in vending cups. This week I noticed a pack from Options in the Belgian Choc flavour. Each cup has only 24 calories!

Calorie Guide To Pret’s Christmas Menu 2012

Come December, high street coffee shop chains and food outlets start filling their shelves with delicious Christmas festive fare. But you can be sure that most of it won't be waistline friendly.

Pret a Manger’s Christmas menu includes a tempting range of seasonal sandwiches, cakes, drinks and snacks, but some contain rather more calories than you may think.

While Pret's website supplies all the relevant nutritional information, I’ve calculated the traffic light nutrition guidelines for each product so you can see at a glance just how healthy (or not) each Christmas menu item is.

Morrisons Instant Light Hot Chocolate Drink

If you’re looking for a lower calorie hot chocolate drink, there are plenty to choose from. Many of us are familiar with the big names such as Options, Galaxy and Cadbury's, but some supermarkets also produce their own brands. These can be surprisingly good and they’re usually quite a bit cheaper too.

This is Morrisons’ own brand called ‘Instant Light Hot Chocolate Drink’. It’s available in a 220g plastic jar and when served up as suggested, has 42 calories per drink.

Frozen Fruits - Healthy, Low calorie, Low Fat

Summer fruit berries are fantastically healthy and very low in calories. One problem with fresh fruit though, is they don’t have a long shelf life, often only one or two days. And as soon as they’re picked, they start losing valuable nutrients.

Frozen fruit as sold in stores, is frozen soon after picking, thereby retaining a greater number of vitamins and minerals.

Tesco sell packs of frozen Summer Fruits which contain a selection of blackberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants. One 80g serving is equal to one of your five a day and has just 21 calories. Or, you can eat the whole 500g pack for 135 calories!

Graze Box Review - Keen Bean

Another interesting selection of nibbles arrived in my fortnightly Graze box this week, with just the one new snack to report on.

This one is called ‘Keen Bean’. It's new to me but not to Graze, although the lid is displaying an ‘improved recipe’ symbol on it.

To make up the four snacks, the other Graze nibbles received were: White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake, reviewed in week 19, Bounty Hunter (coconut flakes, cranberries and milk chocolate drops) first reviewed in week 2, and a fairly new addition to the Graze selection - Crunchini Basilico (basil and olive breadsticks with basil flavoured olive oil dip) reviewed in week 22.

Cadbury’s Chocolate Bars new shape, less calories

Cadbury’s are changing the shape of their Dairy Milk bars. Gone are the familiar rectangular shaped blocks we’re used to. Now they’ve updated their look to provide a more aesthetically pleasing curvy look.

While some of them remain the same weight and therefore calories, others have shrunk a bit and now provide fewer calories. That, in my opinion, is a very good thing.

Jordans Breakfast Multigrain Bars Review

The choice of breakfast bars and biscuits may soon equal the number of traditional cereals available. Last week I discovered yet another new offering, this time from Jordans.

Jordans, of course, are already a prominent name in the cereal and snack bars area, so it comes as no surprise to see a breakfast bar included in their repertoire.

There are currently three varieties to choose from: Maple Syrup & Tasty Pecans (154 calories), Cranberry & Raspberry (143 calories) and Fruit & Nut (157 calories).

Tesco Fluffy Mashed Potato (Frozen) - Review

Since discovering the wonders of frozen mashed potato, thanks to Aunt Bessie's Homestyle Mash, I’ve since found that some other supermarkets are making their own versions. This is Tesco’s contribution called ‘Fluffy Mashed Potato’ and it has 105 calories for 100g.
