Soreen 5 Lunchbox Loaves - Malt or Banana

Before discovering the dreaded calorie, I used to enjoy eating something called Soreen malt loaf.

These dark brown, sweet fruit loaves were packed in a yellow wrapper and had to be sliced. They were soft and squashy and tasted gorgeous when spread with butter.

It's been years since I've eaten malt loaf. But recently I had the pleasure of becoming re-acquainted with them when I found it in a more manageable form (calorie-wise).

Soreen Lunchbox loaves are individual mini sized Soreen loaves which have just 95 calories each. And something I never realised before, they are even low in fat.

They’re just as I remembered. Still packed in a yellow wrapper with the loaf itself having that familiar brown treacle colour. And that smell. Sweet and malty. Biting into them is like biting into a sticky sponge. However, unlike a sponge, they don’t spring back up. Instead, they collapse into a chewy, delicious ball of malty flavoured dough which is a unique experience in itself.

They do have raisins as an ingredient, but not so many that they overpower the malty bread taste.

Soreen Fruity Malt loaves are also available in a Banana mini loaf variety as well as a large cinnamon and raisin loaf, a toastie loaf, fruity five loaf, a banana loaf and of course the original malt loaf. They are all low fat and, as long as you stick to the recommended serving size (either 1/8th or 1/10th of a loaf), each slice is under 100 calories.

Mini Soreen Malt loaves have a shelf life of around 5-7 days but can be frozen for up to three months. They're also ideal for packing into lunch boxes.
