Popping Candy Lollies, Tesco NEW

You know summer must be approaching when the supermarkets start stocking their freezers with lots of new ice lollies and ice creams.

Tesco have brought out quite a few original offerings so far this year. And, here is one of them called 'Popping Candy Lollies'.

I wouldn’t have bought these for myself, but thought they'd probably go down well with the kids. So, although I knew they were likely to be full ‘o sugar, I went and bought them since they only had 75 calories each.

They’re described as:

‘Vanilla flavoured ice cream with bubblegum flavour sugar pieces coated with a strawberry flavoured fondant and popping candy.’

Naturally, when it came to the first unwrapping of one of these treats, I had to see what they were like. My youngest generously allowed me to have a small bite of her popping lolly and it was really quite nice.

The outside coating is sweet and tastes more like bubblegum than strawberry. That will be from the popping candy. The vanilla icecream inside is soft, creamy and mild tasting. But what really makes these lollies fun is the candy which pops away while you're eating them.

While not as quite as forceful as the stuff you can buy in shops, the tiny pieces in the lolly coating provide enough of a popping sensation to make it enjoyable for children. My youngest (6) found it great fun and insisted we listen to the popping sounds coming from her mouth.

I expect I’ll be buying these again. Hopefully the price won’t go too high after the current offer expires.

Popping Candy Lollies are available in Tesco stores and each box contains 6 x 40ml lollies.
