Cassava is a bit like a potato, in that it’s a starchy root which can be peeled, cooked and eaten. It has little in the way of protein but around twice as much fibre content as a potato. And like the potato, they can be turned into all sorts of dishes and snacks.
Velvet Crunch, now known as King Velvet Crunch, have been around since last year (2011) with flavours ‘Cheddar Cheese & Spring Onion’ and ‘Thai Sweet Chilli’ - see this post.
Now there’s a new flavour in the range - ‘Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar Flavour’.
Velvet Crunch Sea Salt |
Like the other varieties, Velvet Crunch Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar have a delicate texture with an easily recognisable flavour.
You also get more of the ‘chew’ factor, probably because of the way they’re shaped – as shown in the photo.
And importantly, they contain 70% less fat than standard crisps. Each 20g pack has 2g of fat and only 84 calories.
In common with many savoury packet snacks, they are high in salt. One pack has 0.7g of salt which contributes 11.2% of the recommended daily maximum of 6g of salt - see the nutritional guidelines post.
King Velvet Crunch savoury snacks can be found in Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose and many other outlets selling savoury snacks.
Nutritional Information: Per 20g bag: 84 calories, 0.1g protein, 16.1g carbohydrates, 2.1g sugars, 2.0g fat, 0.3g saturated fats, 0.6g fibre, 0.7g salt. Suitable for vegetarians.
Where can I buy them?
ReplyDeleteHi, unfortunately they're not longer sold in supermarkets or on Amazon. Sadly that's the what seems to happen with so many new snacks being produced.
