Weight Watchers Red and White Wines

Weight Watchers Red WineAlcohol is often the downfall of those trying to lose weight. It’s also a cause of weight gain for a significant number of people. The trouble is, most of us simply don’t realise just how many calories there are in an alcoholic drink.

Admittedly, manufacturers don’t make it easy for consumers to know how many calories they’re downing since the majority of bottles or cans reveal little in the way of nutritional information.

Weight Watchers WinesAs a general guide, a standard glass (125ml) of dry white wine or red wine is about 115 calories, and sweet wine is about 165 calories. With each bottle of wine containing around 6 glasses, that’s nearly 700 calories!

If you’re looking for a wine that’s lower in calories, there are some around. Weight Watchers have two bottles of lower calorie wines: Refreshing Rose Wine and Fruity White Wine.

The Rose is a 2010 rose German table wine and is described as ‘Lively and refreshing with raspberry and cherry flavours’. The Fruity White Wine is described as ‘Deliciously smooth with aromas of apples and pears’. Both are from the cellars of Reh Kendermann.

Weight Watchers red and white wines have just 75 calories per glass are worth 2 Weight Watchers ProPoints. This gives you a saving of around 40 calories per glass when compared with regular wines.

They’re available in bottle sizes 18.7cl or 75cl and can be found in Tesco and Asda.

*As a word of caution, the small 18.7cl bottle holds more than one glass. The label clearly states ’75 calories’, but the small print underneath states ‘per glass’. So if you’re likely to drink it all, be aware that the whole bottle has 112 calories.
