Waitrose Love Life Low Calorie Dips Review

I first discovered these dips while returning from a trip to the Isle of Wight. We’d stopped at a motorway service area where we were looking for something light to eat. The family headed off to KFC (groan) while I happily browsed the mini Waitrose.

These mini supermarkets are fantastic for those of us who don’t want to refuel on supersized muffins and burgers. I found a nice salad bowl (no dressing) and tried to find something to go with it, such as houmous. Instead, I spotted these calorie controlled Waitrose Love Life dips. There are 3 to choose from: Beetroot Dip (34 calories), Red Pepper Dip (36 calories) or Tzatziki Dip (35 calories).

The cardboard outer sleeve states they are ‘calorie controlled’, ‘low fat’, and ‘by chefs & nutritionists’. There are two pots included for the price and each pot holds 50g.

On this occasion I purchased the Red Pepper and the Beetroot dips. I used the Red Pepper dip as a sort of salad dressing while sitting in the passenger seat of the car. It actually worked quite well and added a nice creaminess to the salad with a bit of flavour enhancement.

I tried the Beetroot with some vegetable sticks and on some oat cakes later on. While it had a nice smooth consistency, I found the flavour a little too watered down. But this is probably because I have been making my own beetroot dip which has a much more intense taste to it. (I will post the recipe here soon)! I haven’t yet tried the Tzatziki but it’s on my list.

All in all, these little pots are really useful as a low calorie stand by snack in a workplace kitchen, or wherever you spend a lot of time. Keep a little box of mini oatcakes nearby or chopped veggie sticks in the fridge and accompany them with one of these dips and you’ve got a low calorie snack that’s healthy and may stave off any ideas about a quick sugar fix.

You can find Waitrose Love Life calorie controlled sips in branches of Waitrose, Waitrose online and Ocado.

Each pot is worth 1 Weight Watchers pro point as calculated by Waitrose.

Suitable for Vegetarians.

On offer at Waitrose on a 2 for £2 deal (at the time of writing).
