Alpro Soya Drink Simply Mild Review

Alpro Soya Simply MildWhen I first saw this new Alpro Soya Simply Mild, I assumed it was new packaging with a new name for their Original chilled soya drink. However, on closer examination of the ingredients and nutrition information, I realised they are indeed different.

Alpro Soya Simply Mild seems to be targeted at those who aren’t crazy about the soya taste, which is inevitable when drinking soya milk! Although there is sugar in the ingredients, it has only 35 calories per 100ml.

The message on the carton says:

Don’t like soya? Take a walk on the mild side. I’m new, refreshing and naturally very versatile. You can’t beat the Original. I’m soooo smooooth, but in a sweet kind of way.

Alpro Soya Simply MildIt’s all very persuasive and the carton is so appealing. But, as tempted as I was, I probably wouldn’t have bought it if it hadn’t been for a money off coupon from Tesco. Also, I’m quite happy with my regular Alpro Soya Light.

I purchased the chilled soya drink which is found with the fresh milk in the chiller cabinets. The carton has one of the new, larger lids, which are so much easier to open. It’s also available in ambient form.

Alpro Soya Simply MildAlthough I don’t drink soya on its own, I had a little taste test by comparing it with my usual Soya Light.

Alpro Soya Simply Mild has a thicker, almost creamy consistency. It’s very slightly sweet, as sugar is in the ingredients.

This is probably why I quite liked it.

However, I was a bit put off by one of the ingredients – vegetable fat. I’m not sure why Alpro decided to include it as it’s not in their other soya drinks.

Anyway, I found it pleasant enough in my tea and it’s brilliant at frothing up for a cappuccino.

When it comes to purchasing again, I may give the ambient a try.  But generally, I’ll be sticking with my favourite soya light which has fewer calories and a sweeter taste which I prefer. But if no others were available, I’d be happy to buy it, despite that rather long list of ingredients!
