Italian Mediterranean Vegetable Sauce, Sainsbury’s

Pasta sauces, especially the rich, creamy ones made with cheese, are a calorific nightmare. If you’re watching your weight, it’s best to steer well clear of these pasta sauces and choose those which are coloured red. This usually means they’re made with a tomato sauce base
which dramatically lowers the calories and fat content.

For example, Sainsbury’s Italian Mediterranean Vegetable sauce has just 85 calories and 4.4g of fat per half pot. Compare this with Sainsbury’s Carbonara Sauce which has 231 calories and 17.3g of fat per half pot.

Sainsbury's Italian Mediterranean Vegetable sauce gets the green light for calories, fat, saturated fat and salt. Even the sugar, which has an amber light, narrowly misses out on a ‘green’ by 0.1g. So nutritionally, this is a healthy pasta sauce all round.
Inside the pot

Each 350g pot contains a delicious mix of roasted vegetables including aubergine, courgette, red, yellow and green peppers and onion in a rich tomato sauce.

You can heat it up in its pot in the microwave for 5.5 minutes or in a saucepan. Then it’s ready to simply pour over your prepared pasta of choice. Add some fresh vegetables for a healthy and nutritious meal.

Italian Mediterranean Vegetable sauce can be found in the chilled cabinet area of Sainsbury’s and it can be frozen.
Added to pasta
Other healthy pasta sauces in the Sainsbury's Italian range too look out for are:

  • Sainsbury's Italian Arrabiatta Sauce with just 60 calories and 1.2g of fat per half pot;
  • Sainsbury's Italian Tomato & Smoked Bacon Sauce with 92 calories and 3.9g of fat per half pot.
